This project will fund the urgent replacement of a collapsing, 15-year-old pit latrine at Jemo House children's home in Maseno, Kenya with 8 new, safe, and hygienic composting toilets. This will improve sanitation and prevents a major health hazard for the 36 children. This will eliminate danger from the cracking structure, reduce disease risk and improve hygiene. It provides waterless, sustainable composting which creates fertilizer, and ensures private, clean facilities.
A 15-year-old pit latrine at Jemo House children's home is cracking and collapsing, creating a critical, immediate health and safety hazard for the household of 30 children. Urgent replacement with 8 safe, hygienic, and sustainable composting toilets is required to prevent contamination and potential injury.
To eliminate the immediate danger this project will construct 8 new, safe, and hygienic composting toilet structures for the 36 children. Composting toilets require no water, making them sustainable and eco-friendly. They safely process human waste, eliminating disease risk associated with the current failing pit latrine. This replacement ensures long-term sanitation security, protects the environment by creating natural fertilizer and guarantees clean facilities for everyone in the home.
This project creates sustainable change in health, and the environment. It permanently reduces waterborne diseases, including typhoid, cutting illness and medical costs. The waterless eco-toilets save water and turn waste into safe fertilizer, which can be used to cultivate avocado and moringa trees for revenue, in addition to protecting groundwater. It ensures long-term dignity, privacy, and sanitation security for decades.
