In Uganda, food security, malnutrition and drought are all very real issues and some of the leading causes of poverty and death. Shanti Uganda is committed to benefitting pregnant mothers, teens and and the greater community in regards to these issues and obstacles. This includes empowering, educating, and providing a space where individuals and families in the community can grow healthy food, learn, and thrive.
Shanti's permaculture garden will educate, empower and benefit pregnant mothers, teen boys and girls, and community members through active participation in interactive training workshops. Workshops will focus on nutrition, environmental consciousness, sustainability, composting, irrigation, and how to implement this type of garden on the home-scale. These workshops will engage the community in demonstrations and training sessions tailored to their specific needs.
The garden will have a long term impact on the local environment and ecology by providing nutrition and economic prosperity for the local community and beyond by empowering participants to learn about small-scale organic agriculture and inspiring passion for sustainable attitudes and lifestyles. Shanti hopes these impacts will reach beyond the participants of the garden workshops and into the families and communities of the individuals involved.
