Dear Partners and Supporters,
In the short time since the establishment of the Rural Watch Africa Initiative (RUWAI) Tree Nursery and Resilience Training Center, we have moved from concept to impact at a pace that inspires us every day.
We are writing to share our first harvest of success—and to map out the critical road ahead.
The First Milestone: Roots in the Ground
With your support, our nursery operations began with an ambitious 20,000 seeds. We are proud to report that 10,000 of these successfully matured and have now been transplanted into the soils of the Kwali District.
These are not just random saplings; they are a strategic defense against climate change and poverty:
- Moringa Oleifera: Chosen for its rapid growth and nutritional density, providing immediate food security for local families.
- Shea Butter Trees: Native to the West African savanna, these trees are an investment in the future "Green Economy," offering long-term carbon sequestration and economic potential for women farmers.
Beyond Planting: Building Human Resilience
Trees need guardians. Our Agroforestry Demonstration Farm has successfully trained a cohort of Kwali rural farmers, culminating in the establishment of a registered Farmers' Cooperative. We are not just planting trees; we are planting an economy.
The Next Phase: Closing the Loop
While we celebrate these 10,000 trees, our vision is a holistic, self-sustaining ecosystem. To transition from a nursery to a full-scale Resilience Training Center, we must urgently bridge the following gaps:
- Tree Tissue Culture Lab: To improve our seed-to-plant success rate and propagate high-yielding, disease-resistant Shea and Moringa clones, we require a sterile lab environment.
- Sustainable Water Facilities: To ensure year-round production regardless of seasonal droughts.
- Apiculture (Beekeeping) Units: Bees are essential for pollinating our Shea trees and provide a high-value "Honey Value Chain" for our cooperative.
- Livestock Integration: By introducing livestock, we create a regenerative system where animals enrich the soil, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
- Volunteer Infrastructure: A training room and resting area for onsite volunteers are vital to scaling our educational reach.
Join the "Roots of Resilience" Circle
Our goal is to empower thousands, restore land productivity, and lift families out of poverty through nature-based solutions.
We are seeking partners for recurring monthly donations. A recurring gift allows us to plan for the future—purchasing lab equipment, securing livestock, and training the next generation of farmers with confidence.

Together, we are growing more than trees. We are growing a future.
With gratitude,
The RUWAI Team
