La Cartuchera emerged as an ongoing initiative developed by our team to share the tools, methodologies, and lessons learned through years of participatory projects, citizen movements, and collective victories toward justice in Puerto Rico. The initiative was designed as an accessible methodological resource for participatory design, planning, and community organizing, with the goal of democratizing processes that help communities imagine and manifest collective futures.
To this date the toolkit has proven to strengthen communities and organizations by promoting collaborative, community-centered solutions to social, environmental, and economic challenges across Puerto Rico. Participants demonstrated leadership by using the toolkit for organizing community projects, supporting vulnerable populations, protecting natural resources, creating educational opportunities, and fostering long-term sustainability initiatives.
Three years later from its inception and after certifying over 40 community leaders from all over the archipelago we have learned from their insight. As part of our vision to continue adapting our tools in resonance with the communal needs, Puertorican trends and the request of our collaborators we have sought out to improve and expand the toolkit for “La Cartuchera”.
At this point our team came together to analyze, integrate participant suggestions, improve andre-design the toolkit. Our community coordinator, La Maraña designers and environmental experts expanded on the original topics included in the toolkit.
The finalized product has been completed, but we still need to finance printing and testing phases of this new version. Please consider becoming part of this project by helping us finance, promote and celebrate three years of “La Cartuchera” and its new ventures.
