This project will provide community-based mental health and psychosocial support to conflict-affected populations in Northern Uganda. Many individuals continue to experience trauma, depression, and anxiety due to past conflict, yet access to mental health services remains extremely limited. Through counseling services, community awareness campaigns, and training of local volunteers, the project will improve emotional wellbeing, reduce stigma, and strengthen community resilience.
Northern Uganda experienced decades of conflict that left deep psychological and social scars. Many people still suffer from: Post-traumatic stress and depression Loss of livelihoods and family members Substance abuse and domestic violence linked to trauma Strong stigma around mental health Mental health services in the region are scarce, with very few trained professionals and limited access in rural areas. As a result, most individuals do not receive the support they need.
This project will deliver accessible, community-driven mental health services by: Providing free counseling sessions through trained professionals Training community mental health volunteers Conducting awareness campaigns to reduce stigma Establishing peer support groups Creating referral pathways for severe mental health cases The approach focuses on sustainability by empowering local communities to continue support beyond the project period.
Improved mental health and wellbeing in target communities Reduced stigma and increased awareness of mental health Stronger community-led support systems Increased access to basic mental health services in underserved areas
