On June 2nd and 3rd Muto attended the Riverside Festival in Leicester. The event was well attended and the project is well supported by Leicester City Council who organise the event. 2 volunteers worked over the weekend with me to assist with sales and set-up.
Weekly workshops continue at the Falcon Centre, Agar Nook, Warwick Way and Fearon hall.
The Tuesday Fearon Hall group are working on a new project over 6 weeks to create large upcycled wall hangings for Fearon Hall that will be displayed to highlight community cohesion.
Muto has agreed to work with a student, from The Princes Trust, with Aspergers. The student will work with Muto for 2 weeks gaining experience in supporting workshop delivery and teaching new textile skills. The student is a keen machinist and has really started to improve in confidence from attending the groups and working alongside the participants.
On June 17th Muto attended the GROW event run by the National Garden Society and local wellbeing projects. The event was not well attended and marketing /onsite signage was not sufficient to bring footfall to the bus. The positioning of the bus was feedback to the organisers to improve the event for 2019.
This month Muto has an intern, working alongside the project to develop a marketing plan to increase sales. Jasmine has been working to increase online sales and drive traffic through social media. So far she has developed new posters and created new hashtag links for social media.
On June 23rd Muto attended The Greenplace Music Festival and on June 24th we attended Hastings Community Fun Day. The event was not well attended due to the England World Cup game and many traders left early. The Muto bus also attended Shelthorpe Community Gardens on June 30th for an upcycling event.
In August Muto attended the Tribe of Doris Festival in Lutterworth to showcase our upcycled textiles and to run upcycling workshops raising awareness of textile waste. As with all the festivals attended this year, the trade cost has been waivered by running textile workshops during the events to teach new skills and raise environmental awareness.
Unfortunately, the weather was poor with high winds and rain for the Tribe of Doris festival, which impacted on overall trade. Workshops were well attended with over 15 participants in each workshop on the bus. Workshops ranged from Rag-Rugging to carnival headdresses (above) all using waste textiles.
On August 10th and 11th The Drop In team attended Wicked Hathern trading for Muto. The team sold 10 dresses for Muto.
Muto has worked with The Drop In to agree the timetable for the Autumn term:

Leicestershire Trading Standards have confirmed new stock for the Muto project in September.
Over the summer volunteers from Fearon Hall have continued to run the Tuesday group by themselves and worked on making upcycled wall hangings. This has proved to be very effective with numbers of participants remaining consistent over the 6 weeks.
