We have ambitious plans to generate sustainable income through a hybrid model of a not-for-profit enterprise in Nepal, alongside charitable fundraising and trading in the UK. We can no longer rely on the old charitable model and so our team are taking responsibility for generating income in Nepal! Together, we're setting up a Community Hub and Cafe in the heart of Panauti - and we need your help!
Small charities like ours struggle to secure funding for our vital work. We need a sustainable, self-reliant way to support our initiatives. Our work is crucial for the Tamang community, who face high illiteracy and dropout rates. In 2024, floods and landslides destroyed over 3,000 homes, displacing thousands and causing devastating losses. Our Community Hub and Cafe will generate sustainable income, ensuring our projects' self-reliance and continued impact on education in the Panauti area.
This project will create a community hub and cafe to generate income for educational projects and provide local services. We secured a building on a 15-year lease in Panauti, which will be transformed into the hub and cafe. Renovations include safety upgrades, electricity and water installations, new flooring, and traditional Newari decoration. The cafe will offer hospitality apprenticeships for young people. The top floors will serve as a community hub for advice and support clinics.
With support from our local team and the Freedom to Learn community in the UK, we aim to achieve our long-term vision. The Hub and cafe will be unique in Panauti, offering a special experience for locals and tourists. This initiative will provide training and jobs for local team members, including those from marginalised communities. Promoting ethical tourism will boost Panauti's local economy. Our vision is a thriving Panauti and surrounding villages, sustained by a self-reliant model.
