Pregnant women from poor and needy families receive nutritional supplementary medicine. They could not afford the nutritional food and medicine because of their financial conditions. As a result some complications arise during their pregnancy. Therefore these women received nutritional supplementary medicine for their safe delivery from Sabuj Sangha's rural hospital situated in Nandakumarpur GP in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India.
These women are screened during antenatal checkups at the community level by the health workers and referred to the rural hospital of Sabuj Sangha for final medical examination. Through further screening & checkup by the doctor, extent of malnourishment is ascertained. Doctor prescribed medicine for nutritional supplementation and medicines are provided to severe acute malnourished (SAM) pregnant women to reduce the risk of delivery.
Lakshmi is a malnourished mother of Maheshpur village of Lakshmijanardanpur GP. She has eye-problem from her birth. Her husband is Gopal, who is a potato-cold-storage-keeper. Lakshmi was always in fear and worried about her child. Gopal tried every possible thing to give her good food. But she was very weak and feeble. Health worker of Sabuj Sangha visited her home and did the check-ups and found that her haemoglobin level was 8.7, which was below the standard level. The health worker has taken her to the mobile health camp of Sabuj Sangha and according to the advice of the gynaecologist, supplementary medicine was provided to Lakshmi. She has given birth to a female healthy baby of 2kgs 700gms. Before delivery her haemoglobin level was 10.2.
