The below case story depicts the testimony of trust that is at enhancement consistentlyin the remote earlier unreached villages of Sunderbans.
Case Story of Saraswati* Mandal, 50 Years, Female
50 years old Mrs. Saraswati* Mondal lives with her husband in the remote Purbasurendranagar village under Patharpratima community development block of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, India.
Most unfortunately three of her sons left them both abandoned without the responsibility to take care about their whereabouts. With a small tract of cultivable land and hard work as a daily wage cultivation labour she and her husband strive hard.
Around three years back Saraswati* became malnourished and went down with severe anemia (low haemoglobin level). She was admitted to the Diamond Harbour Sub-divisional Hospital and given two bottled of blood as a measure of precaution. It was understood that while fighting severe poverty she fell ill so seriously for the absence of basic nutritional foods (with protein, vitamin and other required contents) in her regular intakes.
On being identified one of the Sabuj Sangha Community Health Workers started visiting her home to discuss on her health issues. Gradually she was advised to visit the Health Outreach Camp at Kuemuri High School at close proximity of house organized by Sabuj Sangha. She is also advised to get registered under the Community Health Insurance.
Saraswati* started consulting Doctor at the outreach camps in Purbasurendranagar. She was diagnosed with as low as 7gm/ dl hemoglobin level. Though the Doctor advised her for Blood Transfusion but the elderly couple refused citing their financial constraint to afford the cost. Sabuj Sangha health team offered her with free Ambulance service. But showing their lone stay and without any support they refused that also.
In such condition Sabuj Sangha health team, under the guidance of Doctor, decided to provide food supplements and hematinics (nutrition substances that are essential for proper formation of the components of blood). She was also guided and mentored by the Nutritionists and Community Health Workers for proper food habits.
With consistent monitoring and counseling Saraswati* started following the instructions. Also she started visiting Doctor at each of the camps. A few days back her haemoglobin level was seen to be raised up to 9 gm/ dl during the diagnosis.
With deep gratitude Saraswati* recalls the support and attachment rendered by ‘Sabuj Sangha’. Availing such service, guidance, care, advanced medical facilities with learned experienced Doctors all kept her astonished with a thankful smile. With the amazing experience that she gathered Saraswati* requested Sabuj Sangha for more such Health Camps for the unreached poor community in remote areas at the proximity.
