Disasters have no national boundaries, let alone age group divisions. In Taiwan, we all have the opportunity to encounter 2 or 3 disasters; only by preparing for it in peacetime can we avoid the harm caused by disasters. The Mustard Seed Mission held disaster prevention (epidemic) publicity and education activity in "Tainan Family Care Association", a C-level community care base. By arranging many health promotion activities and seminars, it helps the elderly in the community to delay aging to live an elegant old life.
Before the advocacy started, the elders were invited to talk about their memories of past disasters. It was like reading a history book; the audience really realized that "a family has an elder is like it has a treasure." The experience of the elders can also become our learning materials. The presentation in the course is a process of dialogue between professional knowledge and personal experience. It went from understanding disasters to self-protection, practical exercises on earthquake self-protection measures, interactive games for disaster prevention kits, and hand-washing games for epidemic prevention. The elders' serious expressions and generous sharing deeply moved every participant. Really, it was the best example of "live and learn". Although physical movements may slow down due to age, if disaster prevention can be implemented as a daily life, regardless of age, the fear of disasters can be reduced.
