In Colombia, 43% of households report having experienced difficulties accessing food during the last six months. Nearly 15 million people live below the poverty line, making poverty one of the leading causes of hunger across the country.
For children, the consequences of hunger extend far beyond an empty stomach.
Hunger slows brain development, weakens the immune system, reduces concentration and learning capacity, and makes children far more vulnerable to illness. A severely malnourished child is up to 10 times more likely to die from common diseases such as pneumonia or diarrhea than a well-nourished child.
At Fundación Paula Cristina, we work with children who face multiple vulnerabilities. Many have experienced abuse, trauma, neglect, or extreme poverty. For these children, a nutritious meal is not only food—it is safety, dignity, stability, and hope.
Our Community Kitchen provides daily nutritious meals to children and families who otherwise may not have access to adequate nutrition. Every meal helps a child grow, learn, heal, and build a brighter future.
