It’s been a busy period since launching the Crowdfunding project for supply/monitoring of public access defibrillators (PADs) and CPR training across the Borough of Redditch…
Before delving further into what we’ve been working on we would like to give a massive ‘Thank You’shout-out to each and every one of our donors who have helped us reach an amazing fundraising total of £1140 by 31stMarch!
Since then, we have continued to fundraise but importantly started conversations with businesses in the first local district that has been identified as needing a PAD – Astwood Bank, Redditch.
Currently, Astwood Bank benefits from three defibrillator units but all are installed within organisations that would rely on them being accessible when a cardiac arrest incident occurred; additionally they are located on the outskirts of the district and when time is of the essence this could be the difference between life and death.
The area of greatest need has been recognised as being in the vicinity of the local shops that provide services such as the post-office, convenience store, butchers and hairdressing to mention just a few of the important facilities needed by the local residents, both elderly and those with young families.
Our key conversation currently sits with the local pharmacy, an independent business that is ideally placed to support placement of the first PAD unit. An alternative location is to convert the local telephone box but with that having received an upgrade in recent years the potential of a cost-effective conversion is limited.
We have started work with a local charity the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation on plans to deliver CPR training to any person wanting to learn. This essential skill that could one day save a life is now being brought onto the school curriculum but there are many adults that have never learnt what to do in an emergency and our aim is to address this much needed training gap.
With your support we have been able to begin our journey on what will undoubtedly be a long-term project for members and friends of the Rotary Club of Redditch Kingfisher. Your trust in our work is greatly appreciated and we will keep you informed of progress and look forward to celebrating each milestone with you.
Thank you and please keep up the awareness raising – maybe you know someone who would like to contribute…
Warm wishes
Amanda
