Thank you so much for your donation to IDRAP work on Coral Reef Rehabilitation in South East Province in eastern part of Indonesia. Your generosity means everything to us and to the community we serve. We know you have a lot of choices when it comes to donating, and we are so grateful that you chose to donate to our cause. We promise to be responsible stewards of both your donation and your trust.
In this first four-month period, the field activities carried out by IDRAP focused on community preparation by conducting focus group discussions to find the right formula for implementing the rehabilitation of damaged coral reef areas with the active involvement of local community groups all phases, planning, implementation and controlling. During this period, IDRAP held discussions with five local fishermen groups, including women who depend on and have an interest in the sustainability of coral reefs, both as a source of income and a source of nutrition. 100 people participated in this series of group discussions, including women.
From a series of group discussions conducted, several formulas were obtained that were proposed by community groups. First, it is necessary to replant corals, especially in locations with high levels of damage. Second, it is necessary to create a kind of artificial reef that functions as a place for fish to live so that it can become a fishing ground for local fishermen. These artificial corals can also be used as a medium for growing coral. Third, IDRAP is responsible for raising the funds needed to realize these two formulas, while the community is responsible for contributing labour in carrying out coral planting activities and making artificial coral, including replacing the dead planted coral.
“I am very enthusiastic about the ideas we generated together in the group discussion. "Hopefully IDRAP can make this happen, especially in raising funds so that the local community's ideas for preserving coral reefs can be realized for the sake of life now and for future generations." Babe, local fisherman in Buton Island of Southeast Sulawesi.
Thank you all for your support. We are all improving the future of the ocean, especially coral reefs as providers of nutrition not only for local communities but also for the world. Preserving coral reefs for present and future generations.
