Project Progress & Update Report: Community Beekeeping Initiative

MaSe Foundation aims to launch a community-based beekeeping project aimed at promoting self-reliance in the community we support. While the project has not yet commenced due to funding constraints, important groundwork has been completed to ensure a well-informed and sustainable implementation once resources are secured.

As part of our preparation, we have conducted visits to several organizations that are successfully running similar beekeeping initiatives. The purpose of these visits was to gain practical insight and learn directly from experienced practitioners.

Through these engagements, we were able to; Understand how beekeeping projects are structured and managed on a day-to-day basis. Learn about the level of time and commitment required to maintain hives effectively. Identify best practices and common challenges in community-based beekeeping. Gather detailed information on start-up requirements, including equipment, materials, and site preparation

In addition, these organizations have been incredibly supportive by: Connecting us with experienced trainers in Uganda who can provide hands-on training to our community members. Advising on the specific materials and tools required to begin the project. Providing estimated costs for setting up and maintaining beehives. Sharing insights on the economic and environmental benefits of beekeeping for rural communities

This learning phase has significantly strengthened our understanding and preparedness, positioning us to implement the project effectively once funding is secured.

Current Status and Ongoing Needs

Despite this progress, the project has not yet moved into the implementation phase due to a lack of sufficient funds. Financial support is still urgently needed to cover, purchase of beehives and protective gear, training costs for community members, acquisition of essential tools and materials, initial setup and monitoring support. Without these resources, we are unable to begin what we believe will be a transformative initiative for the community.

We are deeply grateful for the encouragement and support we have received thus far. As we move closer to implementation, we kindly appeal to donors, partners, and well-wishers to support us in bringing this project to life. Your contribution will not only help initiate the beekeeping project but will also empower families to build sustainable livelihoods, support their children’s education, and strengthen the overall resilience of the community.
