Unfortunately due to a lack of sufficient funding this project remains on hold. We have decided to hold off on launching classes until there is at least 3 months of funding available. We continue to assess this on a monthly basis but sadly the Nicaraguan political crisis has deeply affected our fundraising. We have attached a link to a school rebuild we did complete last January. We believe this provides a great overview of the work we do. If we are unable to improve our fundraising over the next six months the funding raised for this project will be donated to a school improvement project we are undertaking in January 2020. We thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Unfortunately due to a lack of sufficient funding this project remains on hold. We have decided to hold off on launching classes until there is at least 3 months of funding available. We continue to assess this on a monthly basis but overall the Nicaraguan political crisis has deeply affected our fundraising. We were conisdering a short term one week summer break arts program but our students have informed us that they would prefer to be home with their families during the break. If we are unable to launch this year then we will use the available funds to run a small program during winter break in December or January. We thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Unfortunately due to a lack of sufficient funding this project is currently on hold. We have decided to hold off on launching classes this spring until there is at least 3 months of funding available. We continue to assess this on a monthly basis but overall the Nicaragua crisis has deeply affected our fundraising. If we are unable to raise additional funds, then we may do a one week Arts workshop this July during summer break rather than weekly classes. We thank you for your understanding and continued support. Alternatively, we may choose to roll these funds into our scholarship program in support of our 20 university students.

Each year during December and January, our English and Arts programs take a pause in coordination with the Nicaragua school year. Our general high school classes will begin again in early February and we use the first two weeks of each school year to register students for the new English and Arts program offerings. This year, if funding allows, we plan to offer the following:

  • Basic, Intermediate & Advanced English Classes (2 days per week, 1.5 hours per class)
  • Visual Arts classes (1 days per week, 1.5 hours per class)
  • Dance classes (1 days per week, 1.5 hours per class)
  • Guitar class (1 days per week, 1.5 hours per class)

The ongoing costs of these programs are $60 per week for English classes which covers the salaries of 3 teachers per day, twice per week ($10 per class). The cost for the Arts program $60 per week, which covers the cost of the salaries of 3 teachers for one session per day ($20 per class). The Arts program is more expensive as we bring these teachers from Chinandega (a 40 minute drive), while the English teachers we are able to hire locally.

Our next update in the early spring will provide a number of registrees for each class.

Thanks
