As originally planned, the organization aimed to raise USD 5,000 to provide essential support to bedridden Parkinson’s patients. Over an extended period, we were able to raise USD 1,847 through the GlobalGiving platform, with a total of 17 donors contributing to this effort. While the target was not fully reached, raising this amount in the current global and local economic environment is still a meaningful achievement, and we sincerely appreciate the generosity of every donor.
At the same time, the number of bedridden Parkinson’s patients in Ethiopia continues to increase, and they are facing severe health and financial challenges. The ongoing rise in medication costs, shortage of sanitary materials, lack of full-time caregivers, and limited household income have placed many families in extremely difficult situations. Access to essential items such as medication, nutritious food, and adult diapers has become increasingly unaffordable, putting patients at risk of further deterioration without consistent care.
The USD 1,847 raised through GlobalGiving was used to support patients by providing essential medication, adult diapers, basic sanitary supplies, and food assistance. This support brought meaningful relief to the patients and their families, reducing both their financial burden and emotional distress. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our donors and to the GlobalGiving platform for making this assistance possible.
Despite ongoing financial constraints, the Parkinson Patients Support Organization Ethiopia continues to make every possible effort to assist those in need. Currently, patients are receiving limited support such as diapers, medication, and occasional essential food supplies from additional community sources and partners. Recently, our partner youth clubs also donated food items to support more than 30 patients, which has provided vital short-term relief.
Although the level of support is still below what is required to meet the full needs of all patients, we remain firmly committed to our mission. We will continue to seek new partnerships, fundraising opportunities, and awareness campaigns in order to expand our assistance and improve the quality of life for bedridden Parkinson’s patients and their families across Ethiopia.
