In February 2024, we embarked on an exciting and critical journey: the construction of a new maternity ward. Today, we are proud to share that we have reached 30% completion, despite the limited resources at our disposal. The walls are being raised, and the columns are being installed, marking significant progress in providing a space that will offer life-saving care for mothers and newborns. Our team is dedicated to ensuring the success of this project.
The importance of this maternity ward goes far beyond the bricks and mortar. It represents hope and opportunity for countless mothers and children who face unimaginable circumstances. Take the story of Oliver, born into tragedy in 2007. His mother passed away at his birth, leaving his uncle to care for him, despite limited resources. Overwhelmed by grief and poverty, his uncle, after a month of struggle, made the heartbreaking decision to abandon Oliver at a gravesite.
But Oliver’s story didn’t end there. His cries were heard by children playing nearby, and they rushed him to a hospital where compassionate mothers took him in. One of them was Sabuli, a woman who knew the depths of sorrow and the power of hope. She cared for Oliver as her own, and her actions eventually led her to create a sanctuary for vulnerable children like him. Today, Oliver is a thriving teenager, living with his adoptive family in the United States.
Oliver’s story underscores why the maternity ward is so crucial. It will provide a safe space for mothers to give birth and receive proper care, ensuring that children like Oliver have a chance at life. With your continued support, this maternity ward will transform lives, offering a future of hope, health, and opportunity to families who need it most.
