TECHO COLOMBIA’S RESPONSE TO THE EMERGENCY
Following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that severely affected different areas of Colombia on August 10, TECHO continues advancing its response alongside the affected communities.
After the first weeks of information gathering, territorial assessment, and coordination with local stakeholders, we are beginning a new stage of our response: the construction of the first emergency homes for affected families.
PROGRESS IN TECHO’S OPERATIONS
Start of the first construction projects: From Saturday, August 29 through Wednesday, September 2, TECHO Colombia will begin construction of the first 7 emergency homes in Roldanillo, marking the start of the construction phase of our emergency response.
Roldanillo, one of the first prioritized territories: Following the process of information gathering and assessment of the impact in the territory, this municipality was identified as one of the first places where we will begin building emergency housing solutions.
Territorial assessment and evaluation continue: In parallel with the start of construction, our teams continue visiting and assessing different affected areas to identify the families and communities that require a housing response.
Our goal: This first step is part of a broader goal: to build 1,000 emergency homes over the next 12 months, seeking to support families whose homes were lost or severely damaged as a result of the earthquake.
Coordination and mobilization to expand the response: We continue working alongside communities, local authorities, organizations, companies, and individual partners to strengthen our response capacity and reach more affected families.
PROGRESS IN RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
We continue working to mobilize the resources needed to advance our emergency response and achieve the goal of building 1,000 emergency homes over the next 12 months.
