The stigma attached to female education is not new. The general rhetoric surrounding girls’ education often includes questions like: Isn’t it useless to educate girls when their future is solely homemaking and child bearing? Why spend so much money on a girl’s education when we could just marry her off with a rich man? Also, some orthodox authorities within the nation have ingrained the idea in minds of a large number of people that educating girls takes them away from religion. Such negative rhetoric surrounding girls’ education plague the fabric of Pakistan’s society and it is not only girls who are victim to this faulty thought-process but the education of boys is also often hindered as they are pushed into child labour. This grave situation is reflected in the fact that in Pakistan, there are about 22.84 million out of school children between the age of five and sixteen (Academy of Educational Planning and Management, 2018). Therefore, NUR Foundation in its quest to break the chains of patriarchy and child labour in Pakistan, started off with NUR Foundation Schools in the year 1996 and since then, it has supported around 18000 students in not only getting primary and secondary school education but also helping them in securing great jobs.
One such location where NUR foundation is trying to fulfill its mission of providing free education to the underprivileged is Malikpur. NUR Foundation School is successfully providing education to a large number of underprivileged children in Malikpur and this success has encouraged the authorities to eventually construct a new building for NUR Foundation College so that the residents could benefit from secondary level of education as well. However, for financing the college building, donations are required from our generous donors.
The total cost of furniture required for the college building is Rs. 1,540,000. In addition to that, a Computer Lab costing Rs. 550,000, Science Lab costing Rs. 350,000, Library costing Rs. 500,000, Play Area costing Rs. 200,000, Cafeteria costing Rs. 100,000, Mosque costing Rs. 200,000, Conference Room costing Rs. 150,000, Principal Office costing Rs. 200,000, Boundary Wall costing Rs. 2,700,000 and Guard Cabin costing Rs. 30,000 are required.
Hence, we at NUR Foundation, request our esteemed donors to help us in financing the college building and turn the dreams of youth into reality.
Thank you!
