CoderDojo - Support kids learning to code globally

Summer can generally be a quiet time for Dojos as many will take a summer break but not at CoderDojo HQ. The summer saw a busy period for the team from creating amazing new content for the new term, getting ready for EUDojo and DojoCon and working hard on the redevelopment of Zen.

This year’s DojoCon took place in Derry (Sept 18 & 19) and saw 300 CoderDojo Community members from across Europe attend the event! The theme was “The Creative Coder” and their was a an awesome lineup full of exciting speakers and workshop presenters that showcased how coding is used in everything from games to art and music to fashion!

On September 30th, the third annual #EUDojo event hosted by Coder- Dojo and Seán Kelly MEP took place in the EU Parliament in Brussels. Over 60 CoderDojo Youths, Mentors, Champions and Parents from across the EU were invited to participate. The young coders from countries including Ireland, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Italy and the UK were welcomed to Brussels to showcase their coding and technology skills and to teach some MEPs how to write a few lines of code. With ages ranging from 7 upwards, the young people amazed participants with their knowledge and ability.

We have also been updating, creating and curating lots of new content for use by both Dojos and potential new volunteers to the CoderDojo movement. You can check out all of our resources on our community Wiki, Kata.

In the past few months we have gone above and beyond 800 Dojos and we are continuing to support more volunteers to get a Dojo started in their local area!
