South Africa has the highest level of youth unemployment in the world while the job market demands more digital skills. To bridge this gap, Code for Change has created an OFFLINE, FREE, and MOBILE-FRIENDLY coding and entrepreneurship program that enables girls and youth to access work-ready skills essential for entering the modern-day workplace and earning an income. We need your help to grow the training curriculum from 3 to 10 classes and provide this training to needy schools nation-wide.
Youth leave school with little or no work-related skills with which to generate an income. South Africa has the highest youth unemployment rate globally (53%). The labor market, however, has a large demand for digital skills, meaning that students should be equipped with work-ready, relevant skills in order for them to partake in the economy. Many schools have been equipped with computers but lack connectivity, software, and IT skills. They need easy-to-use, offline, and free programs.
CodeJIKA is a vocational coding program that equips high school students with work-ready, relevant skills. The most exciting part? It's completely free & offline, so youth & teachers who have access to a mobile device or computer can instantly access and benefit from it. Users progress, receive tips & personalized feedback, submit offline code and are certified. All content is created for the context of the student, aiming to positively contribute to their thoughts, dreams & future development.
The CodeJIKA curriculum increases access and inclusion to digital learning to youth and girls in under-resourced schools, igniting hope and providing vision and rock-solid tech skills. Instead of waiting for youth to finish high school to become unemployed and then seek further training, CodeJIKA provides solid digital skills that enable young people to make money before leaving school.
