In rural areas in Albania, many young girls face severe economic and social challenges, including high unemployment rates, limited access to digital education, and restrictive traditional gender roles. This project specifically supports 10 vulnerable girls from these underserved communities by providing comprehensive coding, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship training. Through participation in Code for Albania Academy, these girls will gain essential digital skills and confidence.
In many rural areas of Albania, young women face significant barriers: limited digital education, high unemployment, and restrictive gender roles. According to national statistics only 4.7% of women pursue ICT-related studies, compared to 11.9% of men. This disparity is even more pronounced in rural areas. Many young women are steered away from science and technology from an early age, not because of lack of talent, but because of lack of exposure, encouragement, infrastructure, and opportunity.
Your support enables 10 girls from rural regions of Albania to participate in the transformative two-weeks summer Camp "Korca ICT Academy & Code for Albania" and year-round mentoring program. Led by experts from Stanford and top U.S. universities, the program provides advanced coding skills, human-centered design thinking, and entrepreneurship training. This equips them to overcome gender barriers, achieve economic independence, and actively engage in civic life.
Empowering these girls with digital and entrepreneurial skills breaks generational cycles of poverty and exclusion. Participants become role models, inspire community transformation, and strengthen democratic values. Ultimately, your contribution helps create inclusive economic growth and gender equality in Albania, shaping a new generation of women leaders in technology and beyond.
