Dear Donors,
"I am cursed. I can spend daily 2 hours studying, only because I am coming to New Life's coaching class. Otherwise, I could not study as I might be assigned with additional house chores by my aunt," says Zarina. Zarina is studying in 4th standard. Her mother died when she was 5 and her father is not ready to take care of the female children. Their aunt is their protection now. Zarina says that whereabouts of 3 of her brothers are not known. 3 of Zarina's elder sisters who are just 16, 17 & 18 years old take care of the family by earning daily wages.
Zarina studies well and scores 75% marks. She wants to become a teacher. She was selected for getting the gift of a new dress on our Republic Day celebration and she was very happy.
The month of January was the celebration month for our coaching class children. On 14th January, the Harvest Festival of Tamil Nadu, "Pongal" was celebrated with children from our coaching classes and early learning centre children. Fun games were conducted for the children and their parents. Pongal (a sweet made of rice) was cooked and distributed to all the participants.
The 70th Republic Day was celebrated in a slum we work (where family quarrels, addiction to alcohol, child abuse, poverty and crimes are prone). Indian national flag was hoisted by the Secretary of Rotary Club of Diamond City Queens.
Children from our coaching class talked about national leaders. Awareness Song was sung by a student. A group of children performed a dance. One of our coaching class students shared her 9 years of experience with New Life. Prizes were given to the winners of games conducted on the Pongal Day Celebration. New dresses were given to three (single parented) coaching class girl children, thanks to a donor here in Trichy who wanted to share her joy of celebration with our children.
This New Year brought with it, appreciation for our team's hard work. You would be happy to know that New Life got four badges in appreciation from GlobalGiving. All these happy happenings and celebrations are possible only with your wonderful support. We are thankful to you dear donors.
Kindly keep supporting and be their blessings to our children who are cursed in their childhood. Keep spreading words about our work and about these children to your friends and relatives who would love to support them. Even a small donation of $20 will help us pay the honorarium of a teacher to coach 10 children. I thank you once again for your generous support.
With regards
