There are four clubs at Clara Luna; kids, youth, reading, and GLOW club, which engage youth in themes about environment, health, art, leadership, and reading. Clara Luna inspires youth in Puerto Lopez through these clubs in a creative and educational space. With the donations, Clara Luna will be able to host these clubs for a year.
The youth and children of Puerto Lopez severely lack opportunities for recreational activities thus leading to an increased substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and health problems at a very young age.
Clara Luna provides activities in a creative and educational environment for the youth in Puerto Lopez through our clubs. We have kids and youth clubs which involve them in activities that revolve around topics of health, environment, art, leadership, and reading. We offer reading club which gives the youth a space to read and also lends books to take home. Finally, we have GLOW club which is a course for young women to prevent teen pregnancy, boost self-esteem, and practice goal-setting.
There are currently around 100 youth and children involved in the clubs and activities at Clara Luna, decreasing the number of youth in Puerto Lopez involved with drugs and alcohol, teen pregnancy, and health problems (malnutrition or overweight). With this project, we hope to expand the youth and children that attend our clubs to affect at least 200 youth in the community.
