Mimi is one of our most recently 'activated' micro-entrepreneurs. She attended a business skills training course at our Sunnyside office in July. Since selling her first clothing bale for almost 100% profit she's been back to buy several more bales and is doing fantastic work to help us to promote the programme in her community.
While our training courses are very popular, community members do find it a huge challenge and big risk to part with the money for their first clothes bale purchase. We have around a 10% success rate in terms of converting trainees to active micro-entrepreneurs and we're always looking for ways to improve that number, for greater social impact.
So with Mimi's successes and willingness to share her story we've found that this has really helped to encourage other new trainees to take the leap of faith and go for their first bale purchase. As long as they have taken on board the training they soon make back the investment, with profits that can often pay immediately for double the number of bales next time.
Mimi even supported us at the Future Families AGM this year, and spoke in front of over 200 people. GO MIMI!
We think Mimi's example demonstrates the Future Families ethos of empowerment, and should encourage us all that everyone has the power to help others.
