Integrated Agricultural Association (IAA) is joining forces with International Student Envoronmental Coalition (ISEC) to improving waste management, advocating clean air in communities and advancing environmental agroecology education in primary and secondary schools in Cameroon.
At IAA and ISEC, we believe that environmental leadership is not about position, educational background, age, gender or finance, but one think is clear; be contious about your environmental actions and show up when need be to protect our planet.
In Cameroon, accumulated garbage from households is illegally dumped in landfills and streets, blocking traffict and polluting the environment. Hard materials and degradable items are mixed and disposed on streets, and collection and treatment of this garbage by the authorities is very slow. It stays there for several weeks and months and sometimes openly burnt to make it disapear. Consequently, polluting the air that we breath and increasing global warming through methane, unpleasant smell and smoke.
We aim to create partnership with informal sanitation works and waste recycling companies, while educating households and young people on waste sorting, composting, regenerative agriculture and air quality monitoring through evidence-based field action environmental/climate initiatives.
By engaging households and young people on environmental leadership through empowerment, we hope to reduce food waste, air and environmental pollution and improve household food security and income, while building climate resilience and planetary health.
