Sixth Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Climate Change Resilient Families in Honduras

During this quarter the weather has been unstable in relation to rainfall, which has occurred in different sectors, concentrating more precipitation in the lowlands. Although no crop losses have been recorded, it is evident that the development of corn and bean crops has been affected, which could reduce their harvest yields.

In COMAL Network we have prioritized the implementation of practices and technologies for adaptation to climate change, these are low-cost practices that are easy to adopt by farmers.

 Main achievements:

During this sixth quarter, technical assistance has been provided to farmers' organizations in rural communities. In addition, support has been provided to regional and community boards of directors.

At least 9 families in the dry corridor in the southern zone of Honduras have been supported in the installation of gray water or sewage filters. This filtered water is used to irrigate family vegetable gardens. In addition, a training process was carried out for the efficient management and maintenance of these filters.

In relation to crops, 25 families received support in the production of agroecological inputs (liquid fertilizers) and in soil preparation for the establishment of crops of nutritional importance.

On behalf of all the families that have benefited, we would like to express our gratitude to the donor community and the GlobalGiving team for their valuable contribution to the quality of life of the families in rural Honduras.
