Thank you so much for supporting this project with your donation. We are delighted to bring you the project's first report from from Progamme Officer for Climate and Environment - Beatrice Wambia.
Through this water spring protection project, Brighter Communities Worldwide continues to provide clean and safe drinking water to families and communities who previously relied on unsafe and distant water sources. Every spring protected means healthier children, empowered women and communities that are better equipped to thrive.
The impact of the project is already evident. Lomet water project is one of the springs that has been protected this year. During training for the committe of local people who will work with Brighter Communitis Worldwide to protect the spring, we met Mercy who is one of the committee members and a beneficiary of Lomet spring and here is what she said.
"I am a very happy woman today. Before the protection of this spring we used to travel for long distances to find water that was at least clean. We used to queue for hours waiting for our turn to get water. This wasted a lot of time, it took half a day to get water. We are very grateful for Brighter Communities to have protected this spring because we can now have water at our doorstep, this has saved our time as women and we can now use this saved time to improve our kitchen garden and earn some cash for our living. Asante sana to you for this project".
In a nearby sub-county of Belgut, Brenda is one of the beneficiaries of Birirbei water spring. This is one of the springs protected in Birirbei community in Kapsoit ward.Brenda is very happy and can't hide her happiness when the spring was protected and this is what she says:
"Before this spring was protected we were always worried about the water our children are taking, our children were sick with stomach problems, diarrhea and other water borne diseases. I personally used a lot of money to visit hospitals and my children missed school most of the time because they were sick. This is because the spring was open and was easily contaminated by surface runoff, livestock and human activities. I want to say thank you so much to Brighter Communities for protecting this spring for us because this has ensured clean and safe water supply and this has reduced the health issues like diarrhea, and other waterborne diseases. This has saved me money and I am able to buy household needs. Asante sana".
Every donation however small it may be helps enormously, it helps us move closer to a future where no family has to risk their health simply to collect water. Asante sana.
