Dear Friends,
I hope this email finds you all safe and well. It’s been a busy quarter for Splash as we work to stay on track with our ambitious goals to reach every government school in Addis Ababa and Kolkata by the end of 2023. While there have been many challenges and delays due to COVID-19, we are proud to tell you that Project WISE will reach 390 schools and 318,504 kids total across both cities at the end of June!
The pandemic continues to rage in India, and Kolkata has been in lockdown for the last few weeks. Most schools have been closed since March 2020.
In Ethiopia, where schools have been open since January 2021, there have luckily been far fewer cases relative to population size. We are still taking extensive safety precautions for our team and the schools we serve.
Against this backdrop, Splash's work to bring WASH in schools to underserved communities is critical and a cause for hope. As schools reopen, facilities for handwashing with soap and programs to encourage positive hygiene behaviors are critical public health imperatives.
