Clean Water for Flood-Affected Families

By Awais Abid | Executive Director

1. Project Progress Overview

Youth Advocacy Council Pakistan (YAC) is pleased to share the second progress update on the Clean Water for Flood-Affected Families project in Sahjra Union Council, District Kasur. During this reporting period, the project focused on assessing community needs, strengthening coordination with government departments, and engaging local communities to ensure that future hand pump installations are implemented in the most vulnerable flood-affected areas.

2. Community Survey in Flood-Affected Areas

YAC conducted a field survey in the targeted villages of Sahjra Union Council to assess the drinking water situation following the devastating floods. The survey team visited affected households and consulted with community members to understand the availability and condition of existing water sources.

The assessment revealed that many families continue to rely on unsafe water sources due to damaged or contaminated wells and hand pumps. Based on the survey findings, priority locations were identified for the installation of additional hand pumps to maximize access to safe drinking water for vulnerable households.

3. Coordination Meetings with Government Departments

To strengthen collaboration and ensure sustainability, YAC held coordination meetings with relevant government departments and local authorities, including representatives from the District Administration, Public Health Engineering Department, Local Government Department, and Union Council.

During these meetings, the survey findings were shared, priority villages were discussed, and participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to improve access to safe drinking water in flood-affected communities. The discussions also focused on promoting long-term maintenance of water facilities and strengthening cooperation between government institutions and local communities.

4. Community Consultation Meetings

YAC organized consultation meetings with community leaders, women, youth, and local volunteers to discuss the project implementation process and identify suitable locations for future hand pump installations.

These meetings encouraged community participation and ensured that the selected sites would provide maximum benefit to flood-affected families. Community members expressed their appreciation for the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and maintaining the water facilities once installed.

5. Next Steps

In the coming months, Youth Advocacy Council Pakistan will continue implementing the project by installing additional hand pumps in the identified locations and working closely with local communities to improve access to clean and safe drinking water for flood-affected families.

6. Conclusion

The project continues to make steady progress toward restoring safe drinking water in Sahjra Union Council. Through community surveys, coordination with government departments, and active engagement with local residents, YAC has laid a strong foundation for the next phase of implementation.

Youth Advocacy Council Pakistan sincerely thanks GlobalGiving and its generous donors for their continued support. Their contribution is helping vulnerable families recover from the impacts of the floods and move toward a healthier and more resilient future.
