The project aims to restore access to clean drinking water to 2,000 flood-affected families in Sahjra Union Council, Kasur District, Pakistan. Youth Advocacy Council Pakistan will install 25 hand pumps and conduct hygiene awareness sessions. Empowerment for the women as WASH advocates, promotion of health, and long-term resilience in this community will be achieved after the flood disaster in 2025.
Heavy floods in 2025 completely destroyed Sahjra Union Council in Kasur, contaminating wells and destroying water sources. As a result, families, particularly women and children, currently drink from unsafe water, causing diarrhea, cholera, and other diseases. With very little government support and no clean water systems, communities need access to safe and sustainable drinking water with immediate effect to protect their health and dignity.
The project will install 25 hand pumps in the Sahjra Union Council villages that were affected by flooding in order to provide clean drinking water for 2,000 families. Hygiene awareness sessions will be conducted by Youth Advocacy Council Pakistan and also train local women as WASH advocates for maintaining pumps, promoting sanitation, and ensuring long-term, community-led water management.
This project will provide sustainable access to clean drinking water to 2,000 families in Sahjra Union Council by reducing waterborne diseases and generally contributing toward good health. It shall build local capacity through the training of women and youth as WASH ambassadors, ensure maintenance of the pumps, and provide for resilient, self-reliant communities capable of coping with any future floods.
