Dear Donors
1. Project Background
Karitas Relief Mission is committed to improving access to safe and clean drinking water for vulnerable rural communities. Through our Clean Water for Butonda, Bukandula and Kasaala project, we are seeking to address the persistent shortage of safe water affecting families in these three villages.
Many households in these communities experience difficulties accessing reliable sources of clean water. Families often have to walk long distances in search of water, while some depend on unsafe water sources that expose them to waterborne diseases.
Women and children are particularly affected because they carry much of the responsibility for collecting water, sometimes sacrificing valuable time that could otherwise be spent on education, household activities and income-generating work.
2. Project Goal and Beneficiaries
The project aims to improve access to safe and reliable drinking water for 1,567 people living in Butonda, Bukandula and Kasaala.
Our proposed intervention is to drill three boreholes, with one borehole established in each village.
The project will directly benefit:
- Children who need safe drinking water at home and school.
- Women and girls who spend considerable time collecting water.
- Elderly people and persons with disabilities.
- Vulnerable households with limited access to safe water.
- The wider communities of Butonda, Bukandula and Kasaala.
3. Planned Project Activities
To achieve our objectives, we plan to undertake the following activities:
1. Conduct site assessments and identify suitable borehole drilling locations.
2. Drill one borehole in Butonda.
3. Drill one borehole in Bukandula.
4. Drill one borehole in Kasaala.
5. Install appropriate water pumping systems.
6. Test water quality to ensure that the water is safe for human consumption.
7. Establish community water management committees.
8. Educate beneficiaries on hygiene, sanitation and proper water-source maintenance.
4. Expected Results and Impact
Upon successful implementation, the project is expected to:
- Provide 1,567 people with improved access to clean and safe water.
- Reduce dependence on unsafe water sources.
- Reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.
- Reduce the time women and children spend searching for water.
- Improve household hygiene and sanitation.
- Enable children to spend more time studying and attending school.
- Strengthen community health and wellbeing.
5. Challenges and Funding Needs
The greatest challenge facing this initiative is the financial resources required to drill and equip three boreholes.
Borehole drilling involves substantial costs, including site preparation, drilling, installation of pumping equipment, water testing and community mobilization.
Without adequate financial support, these communities will continue facing difficulties accessing reliable sources of safe drinking water.
6. Next Steps
Karitas Relief Mission is working towards mobilizing the necessary resources to begin implementation. Our immediate priorities are to finalize technical assessments, obtain the required drilling services, identify suitable sites and coordinate with community leaders.
We will also establish monitoring arrangements to ensure that the boreholes remain functional and are properly maintained for the benefit of future generations.
7. Conclusion and Appeal to Donors
Access to clean water is a basic human necessity and a foundation for healthy communities. For the 1,567 people living in Butonda, Bukandula and Kasaala, three boreholes would represent a significant improvement in their daily lives.
We sincerely appeal to our donors, partners and well-wishers to support this initiative. Your generosity will help bring safe water closer to families, protect children from preventable diseases and restore dignity to communities that have struggled with water shortages.
Together, we can transform the lives of 1,567 people by bringing clean, safe and reliable water to Butonda, Bukandula and Kasaala.
