In total 5 water filters have been given out to different families in Mahahual, Mexico. The families were supplied with these water filters for helping in the annual beach clean up. An estimated 1547.7kg of plastic was collected over the 24day period.
Plastic bottles are a problem and Mahahual is no exception to this. Unfortunately not all plastic bottles get recycled and can end up in a dump or on the beach all over the world.
Water filters were given out not only to reduce the amount of plastic bottles but to contribute to the families economy as they will not have to spend money on buying clean water. The filter cleans water from the tap but also rain water. The water filters have the ability to filter 150,000 liters of water.
