Access to clean drinking water is becoming increasingly difficult for communities in the rural areas of Sindh. Recently, people across Sindh have raised their voices in protest against the Government of Pakistan for constructing additional canals over the Indus River. The only major water source for many farming communities and their livestock.
As water levels drop, families are struggling to meet even their basic needs. Many households are forced to store water in open pits, which becomes contaminated over time, putting them at serious health risk. The first three months of the year are especially critical, with widespread water shortages affecting nearly every community in lower Sindh.
In response, SMPD has been approached by multiple villages requesting support to install hand pumps, which would provide immediate and nearby access to safe drinking water. These hand pumps represent a life-changing solution for families who currently walk long distances or rely on unsafe storage methods.
We at SMPD are listening to these communities and mapping areas where the need is most urgent. We feel blessed that these communities trust us with their hopes, and with the help of our supporters, we are doing all we can to meet their needs.
