As a mother of six, Beatrice cares very much about the well being of her children. For Beatrice this means providing them with basic daily needs and an education. Three of her children have gone to university and she wants this to be possible for all six.
Before becoming a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW), Beatrice and her neighbors would farm their crops and sell them to a middle man who severely underpaid them.
Once Beatrice became a CKW, all of this began to change. With her knowledge she and her community learned the best times to plant their crops, and they were finally able to farm enough to stop losing money.
The community began producing better crops in larger quantities. They also learned that they would be able to make more money if they combined all of their crops and sold them in bulk. A group of ten farmers decided to sell all of their crops together for larger profits by cutting out the middle man.
With her new knowledge, Beatrice and her community began making more money than ever before. Her community is now forming groups to combine their goods together for sale, and they are very happy. They love the knowledge that they are learning from the CKW’s and want the program to continue so that they are able to learn more and provide more for their families.
With her increased income, Beatrice is now going to be able to send all six of her children to university. Once she has paid for all of their schooling, she hopes to help fund construction to build a well for fresh water in her community.
Because of your compassionate support, many people in Beatrice’s community are now lifting themselves out of poverty.
Thanks to your generosity, we have accomplished the following:
• More than 1,300 CKWs are currently helping farmers by providing tips on how best to care for their crops and livestock – which they depend on for both their food and their income.
• We’ve now reached more than 286,000 total farmers helped.
• Our CKW program has reached a total of 21,800 villages!
Thank you for helping so many poor women like Beatrice! Without your compassionate generosity, this amazing work would not be possible.
