Thanks to many great donors the City Year Team at John Hope High School was able to have great impact on the students they serve.  They finished the year on a high note- making sure the student body was able to leave for summer break in a good place for next year.

The team hosted a number of events to close out the school year.  With just a couple weeks left to go, they invited kids that had the best attendance, received the highest grades (or most improvement), and/or have behaved the best in class to a City Year "VIP Lounge."  These lounges, hosted by City Year, serve as a powerful incentive for students. Students that receive a selective invitation are rewarded for doing better by getting to attend this special lunch, with great food served by corps members and external guests.

With the help of these donations, the team was also able to host an End of Year whole school attendance rally, where the students that had the very best attendance received prizes from City Year and the school.

Overall the City Year Team serving at John Hope Community Academy saw great improvement by the students they serve in the 2013-2014 school year.  In Academics, 52% of the students they serve improved their grade from a D or F to a C average or higher.  The team also saw that almost 20% of the students they work with improved their attendance average to 90% or better.  In behavior, the team was able to work closely with the teachers to see that 54% of the students had improved their decision making skills from the beginning to the end of the year.

All this progress would not be possible without the support of compassionate individuals like yourself, thank you for making our work happen.
