Welcome to our mission dedicated to combating chronic child malnutrition in Ecuador. As a non-profit organization, our commitment runs deep in addressing the pressing issue of malnutrition, especially considering that Ecuador ranks as the second country in Latin America and the Caribbean with the highest rate. Our focused initiative revolves around a community-based therapeutic program, aiming to administer ready-to-use therapeutic food to children under 5 years old and pregnant or lactating teenagers women
Starting in December, after securing the grant, we dedicated ourselves to identifying and contacting community leaders in three different localities where we plan to implement our program. However, due to the severe floods that occurred in Ecuador during January and February, we decided to focus our efforts on the coastal region of the country, which was one of the most affected by the rains.
To carry out our project in this area, we established a collaboration with the municipality of La Libertad, located in the province of Santa Elena. This agreement will allow us to provide assistance and treatment to children and pregnant adolescent women, who represent a particularly vulnerable population in this crisis.
In March, we began the complex process of acquiring and importing the necessary product for the program. After several logistical procedures and coordinations, the product finally arrived in the country at the end of May.
At this moment, the product is stored in a warehouse while our teams in the communities conduct the necessary initial evaluations. These evaluations include taking weight, height, and other pertinent measurements for both
the children and the mothers, ensuring that we have an accurate and detailed database to monitor the program's impact.
Our focus on the coastal area and collaboration with local authorities are critical steps to ensure that our program has the greatest possible impact, providing support and resources to those who need it most during these challenging times.
