In recent months, we continued implementing the “First Star of Independence” program, supporting young people transitioning out of foster care into independent life. Thanks to the incredible engagement of our community and partners, we exceeded our initial fundraising goal of $25,000, raising nearly $31,000. This allowed us to expand the scope of support and respond more effectively to individual needs—ranging from equipping first apartments with essential items to providing access to personal and professional development opportunities.
One of the young people we supported is Ania, who faced the challenge of starting her adult life without a stable family background. Through the program, she was able to furnish her first apartment with basic necessities—things that are often taken for granted, yet critical for a dignified and stable start. Beyond material support, Ania also received tailored assistance that helped her build confidence and take meaningful steps toward independence.
Our work continues to show that successful transitions into adulthood require more than one-time support. Young people leaving care need comprehensive, long-term assistance that includes not only material help, but also access to education, skill-building, and emotional support. The additional funds raised enabled us to strengthen this holistic approach and create more sustainable outcomes for participants.
In the coming months, we plan to further develop the program, with a stronger focus on long-term independence and life skills. Each young person we support brings us closer to a future where leaving care does not mean facing adulthood alone.
