This Christmas, help us ensure that all 260 families supported by Nasio Trust in Western Kenya enjoy the warmth and joy of a hot festive meal. Food insecurity is making it increasingly difficult for families in rural Kenya to put food on the table. As hunger takes its toll, children are unable to focus at school, workers are unable to go to work and health crises worsen for the whole household. A food parcel with essentials will help alleviate this burden during the festive season.
According to the Global Hunger Index, 36% of Kenyans are undernourished. Despite being a historically fertile part of Kenya, Kakamega County is grappling with food insecurity as a result of climate change. Decreasing agricultural yields and extreme weather events such as flooding are hampering crops such as maize, which is a staple in Kenya. Inadequate food affects children's development and learning outcomes, maternal and household health, and productivity in later life affecting incomes.
Food parcels will provide household pantry essentials with a long shelf life to support families during the festive period, giving them a reprieve during Christmas from securing food for their family. The parcel will also give family members suffering from poor nutrition to regain their strength and health.
The project will make 260 households in rural Kenya food secure during Christmas.
