The Children Support Team of SAP recently introduced lessons in batik making. Children with learning diffculties often are delayed in their development, and the practical lessons help to develop various abilities. Children learn batik making for different reasons. It develops fine and gross motor skills for children with poor motor coordination. It also develops the numeracy and literacy of children as materials to be used for designs require measuring the quantities needed.
Batik making includes a variety of activities; this helps keep children with attention deficit to stay involved. It also teaches the children safety with the use of gas stove, melted wax and other hot objects used in batik making. The instructor involves the children in all activities in order for them to have practical exposure to help them benefit from the experience. The children enjoy the activity!
