This project aims to address the issues of child rights and child protection through active participation of disadvantaged children. We intend to strengthen the children and adolescents of underprivileged communities of Bhavnagar, India by forming their own collectives called Balsena. Balsena children would be engaged with various capacity building programmes like leadership training, exposure visits, children seminars, participation in national forums.
India has signed the UNCRC but it is difficult to argue that enough is being done to ensure that children know, enjoy and can stop violations of their rights. For instance, numerous underprivileged children are pressured to work instead of pursuing their education. Children are not often treated as citizens and decision-makers themselves and not taken seriously as they do not possess any voting rights. Seldom are they afforded a chance to express their views on issues that affect their lives. Co
The project would aim to organise children from disadvantaged communities and support in forming their own collectives. It will support the children collectives called Balsena to conduct various activities to strengthen these collectives and capacity building of children so that they can take leadership and participate in policy advocacy and changing the lives of other children of their communities.
Children from vulnerable and migrant communities obtain equal rights of education and better living. Issues of child marriage, child labour and child abuse would be eradicated. We would be able to create child friendly society and make them educated and responsible citizens of the nation who would be conscious about the burning issues like inequality, environment and terrorism.
