Sunray Foundation intends to supply monthly food rations along with funds to support the educational needs of 200 underprivileged children living in the central province of Sri Lanka. These identified children are living in single parent homes or with relatives or guardians. Unlike the children living in Sri Lanken orphanages. who are well provided for, these displaced children often suffer from the lack of adequate food, clothing and education. their mental health needs are not been addressed
The volunteers at Sunray have identified 200 children in dire need of assistance, living in extreme poverty and without an adequate support system. Up to 90% of these children live with grandparents that lack the ability or means to adequately care for the children. The result is children that are undernourished and not attending school. Because of these factors, 70% of the children will not complete their secondary education. The contributes to higher crime, drug abuse and depression.
The Sunray Foundation volunteers estimate the cost for addressing the needs of this population at $12,000 per year. The volunteers has already been collected the details of the children and the sunray will disperse collected funds directly to the children and their families. Sunray will pay the tuition fees for the education of the children. Furthermore, Sunray will provide formal oversight and monitoring of the program to record the progress of each child.
The goal of Sunray Foundation is to significantly raise the standard of living of the 200 identified children in our program. The Foundation realizes that providing nutrition, education and emotional support for these children will result in happier, healthier children. As education improves so also will the level of job skills and employment readiness. This in turn results in less crime and antisocial behavior. Supporting this vulnerable group of children will contribute to a higher standard.
