The primary goal of our Foster Care and Support Programme is to provide children with the emotional, physical, educational, and economic tools to facilitate the establishment of a happy and secure life away from the streets. When unable to return to their families, children still have the opportunity to grow within a safe, family-based environment through this programme.
Increasing the capacity of our Foster Care programme has been no walk in the park. But we, along with the children who benefit from this care, have been overcoming those challenges. During follow-up with 28 children supported by 22 carers in September of 2016, we found that the children are doing well and getting on well with their new guardians. Even those who had been exhibiting difficult behaviour were displaying great improvements. Moreover, the process of identifying prospective foster families has been promising, with letters of good conduct processed for 19 carers so far.
Alongside this, we are supporting these fostered children in their transition to adulthood. Your generosity has enabled us to meet their school requirements: fee payments and the delivery of scholastic materials were both possible for all fostered children in 2016. We have also been able to place children in vocational training, and the results have been very encouraging. From tailoring to motor cycle mechanics, these children are progressing well and earning a little income once in a while.
'The support Retrak gave me helped me to go back to school; my deep desire of becoming someone in society began to be realised' (Child placed in foster care).
With your support, we are helping these children bring stability to their lives, both now and for the future.
