Hey,
Sometimes, the biggest changes in a child's life begin with something as simple as finding a place where they feel comfortable.
One of our students, whom we'll call Marco, lives with his family on a farm outside the main community. Before joining Kids Club, he struggled to read and was very shy around other children, having had fewer opportunities to socialise with them.
But slowly, things began to change.
With regular lessons, encouragement and the chance to make new friends, Marco has become a different child. He can now read, participates actively in class and enjoys spending time with the other children.
For us, this is what Kids Club is all about. We're not only teaching children how to read and write. We're helping them believe in themselves.
More Children, More Learning
Since our last report in July, Kids Club has continued to grow.
We now support 40 regular students through our weekday tutorials, alongside 9 children in our special needs education program. Our Saturday Fun Club welcomes around 58 children for afternoons filled with learning, storytelling, games and creative activities.
Our teachers are seeing encouraging progress. Children are reading with clearer pronunciation and greater confidence, improving their handwriting, and developing their mathematics skills through counting, addition and subtraction.
Perhaps most importantly, they're becoming more comfortable participating in activities both at Kids Club and in their regular schools.
A Better Space for Our Children
We've also made several improvements to our Kids Club home.
During July and August, we struggled with limited access to water and proper toilet facilities. Thankfully, in September, we completed a new water tank and comfort room, making a big difference to the children's daily comfort and hygiene.
Our fence and gate have received a fresh coat of paint, new bookshelves are helping us organise our growing collection of learning materials, and we've received additional books, teaching supplies and art materials.
We've also been planting in our garden, where the children learn about growing food, caring for plants and taking responsibility for something together.
These improvements might seem small, but they all contribute to making Kids Club a place where children feel safe, comfortable and welcome.
The People Who Make It Possible
We continue to be grateful for the volunteers who share their time and skills with our children.
In August, Raul and Barbara joined us, contributing their energy, talents and generous support. More recently, Celine and Yemaya have been helping with our Saturday Fun Club, bringing plenty of creativity and enthusiasm.
Their presence means so much to the children, who benefit not only from additional learning support but also from new friendships and experiences.
Growing Comes With Challenges
As more children join us, our biggest challenge is ensuring that everyone receives the attention they need.
We would love to welcome another teacher who can provide more individual support, especially for children who are falling behind in school.
We also still have no electricity at Kids Club. Installing a small solar system remains one of our priorities, allowing us to use lighting, fans and learning equipment and eventually offer activities later in the day.
These are goals we're working toward, one step at a time.
Thank You for Helping Us Grow
When we look at children like Marco, we're reminded that education can change so much more than academic results.
A child who once sat quietly on the sidelines is now reading, making friends and taking part in the world around him.
And that's possible because people like you continue to believe in what we're doing.
Thank you for helping us keep Kids Club open, welcoming and full of opportunities for the children of Burgos, Siargao.
With gratitude,
Sanne
