The Rami Meiri Project - Talking Walls
As part of our commitment to children growing up in residential group homes, and particularly non-formal education and enrichment, “Yeladim – Fair Chance for Children” turned to artist, Rami Meiri with an idea - to give a Passover themed workshop to the children of “Oranim Group Home”.
Oranim Group Home is a post-hospitalization, therapeutic group home for children between the ages of 5 -18, who were removed from their homes due to disciplinary despair and dysfunctional parenting.
In December 2014, 20 youths attended a unique wall painting workshop in Rami Meiri’s studio in Tel Aviv.
When the workshop began concerns like “What should I do?” and “I can’t draw” were audible among the children, but Meiri, with his soothing and loving manner, calmed everyone down as he described art of wall painting. Slowly, the children began to choose a piece of wall with a word or phrase from the Haggada on it, and embarked on a colorful, expressive journey. The studio took on a new life of light and color.
All of the original and wonderful paintings created in the workshop were incorporated in “Yeladim’s” Passover Haggada and all of the proceeds from the sales of the Haggada went towards The Educational Resource Centre and Cultural Enrichment Program run by “Yeladim – Fair Chance for Children”.
