Celebrating Motherhood: Happy Mother's Day!

By Varsha Jain | Project Leader

Geeta devi with his son.
Geeta devi with his son.

Geeta Devi, a day care centre (balwadi) supervisor in rural and tribal villages of South Rajasthan, is actively involved in community empowerment. Her husband, Jogaram Dihadi, works as a labourer and also farms to support their family of five children.

Geeta has faced significant challenges, including struggles with her mental health during pregnancy, resulting in the birth of a frail baby weighing 1.3kg. Unfortunately, Geeta was unable to seek medical help for her child due to financial constraints.

She learnt about the Kangaroo Mother Care Method through Seva Mandir's early childhood care programme, which she attended in her village.  With guidance from the team, she diligently applied the method to care for her baby. Over time, her efforts paid off as her child's weight improved significantly, reaching 6.1 kilograms within three months.

Mothers like Geeta are a true example of the indomitable spirit and boundless power of a mother's love. today, young mothers also want to participate economically in the household and fulfil their dreams. This is further supported by the Balwadi facility of the Seva Mandir, which allows the mothers to indulge, reflect and engage in other social and community activities, as well as devote time to their personal needs, while ensuring the well-being of their children.

All credit goes to our well-wishers and supporters like you who enable us to provide care to children from underprivileged communities and support their mothers through the project.

On this day, we salute all mothers in every corner of the world. Happy Mother's Day!

Yours sincerely,
