Fah's Congenital Heart Defect

By Dr. Bunjongsek Supsopha | Project Leader

Fah is suffering from a congenital heart defect.

“I’m tired, Mom. I can’t walk anymore.” These short words came from a 10-year-old girl, Fah who should have been happily playing with her friends. Fah’s every step is a battle against her weakening body because she was born with a congenital heart defect. There is a hole in her heart wall measuring up to 1 centimeter that is slowly taking away her strength and life.

Four surgeries and an ongoing battle, from “heart balloon angioplasty” to “battery implantation.” At the hospital, a specialized cardiac center in Khon Kaen Province, efforts were made to stimulate her heart and keep it beating. But fate dealt another blow. As Fah grew older, the battery lead came loose, requiring repeated surgeries, along with recurring seizures.

A mother’s heart aches even more than her child’s.

“I don’t want to leave my child. I want to stay and take care of my daughter at the hospital. Even though I’m exhausted to the point of collapse, I won’t let her be alone. I’m raising her by myself because her father passed away from colon cancer. Frequent hospital visits have left me with no income. My last savings were used up traveling across provinces from my hometown to Khon Kaen Province for months—food, transportation, and other expenses,”her mother said with a sorrowful look in her eyes.

CCF has helped Fahthrough the“Child Rescue Fund” program to ensure that she can access continuous medical treatment at the hospital. CCF helps the family continue with their lives. The support includesmedical care and health assistance, transportation costs to the hospital, food costs, supplement costs, and livelihood support for the family: mushroom cultivation (providing mushroom growing houses and mushroom spawn) and cricket farming (providing cricket breeding stock). We hope that our support from your donation will help Fah’sheartbeat steadily again.
