By Ruth Konchellah | Director of Cherish Others Organization Kenya
Since the last update, Cherish Others conducted meetings with girls in schools in the Transmara Maasai area of Kenya in order to sensitive them to the perils of Female Genital Mutilation and early marriage. These efforts included discussions with teachers and school administrators.
Cherish Others continued to work hard to encourage girls to remain in primary and secondary school.
As part of these efforts, Cherish Others distributed sanitary towels to girls. This is important because most girls say that the reason they miss so much school is because they do not have this basic item, which is essential for hygiene during their monthly periods.
The director of Cherish Others, Ruth Konchellah, also met with local officials and politicians to sensitize them to the issues the girls face, and to enlist their support.
