Since our last quarterly report, we unfortunately must inform you that the COVID pandemic is continuing to ravage Kenya. Testing is not widespread, and the cost of tests, when they are available, is too high for most people. The pandemic is continuing to cause extensive disruption to the economy, and to the lives and livelihoods of ordinary people.
Many people in Kenya live at or near the poverty line, and therefore they have been particularly affected. This includes much of the population in the areas where we work. Because of their desperate situation, we are continuing to provide funds to some of the most needy. This at least helps them to meet essential needs, including food and sanitary items for the girls.
In addition, we are helping a needy family build a small dwelling. They had been forced out of the place where they lived due to losing their jobs.
Although, due to the pandemic, our programs remain negatively impacted, like those of so many other charitable organizations, we look forward to being able to resume our regular programs to counter FGM when the pandemic subsides. In the meantime, we will continue to do all that we can to assist emergency needs resulting from the pandemic.
