The peak time that FGM takes place in the Transmara region is during the months of August and December, when schools are out of session. through the end of the year.
With that in mind, Cherish Others Organization Kenya donated a motor bike to one of the community elders (see photo). This will enable him to more easily visit communities in order to help counter plans to carry out FGM ceremonies.
Donation of the motor bike also helps promote the Kenyan concept of community policing, whereby traditional elders and chiefs informally assist government officials to support the rule of law. While FGM is illegal under Kenyan law, it is still widely practiced. Educating and assisting the traditional chiefs are a very important part of our organization’s efforts to counter and help end the practice of FGM.
Cherish Others Organization Kenya appreciates your donations and support.
